“Mr. Debonair”

Ice Theatre of New York has asked me to create the tribute video for their fall gala honoring the one and only Richard Dwyer: Mr. Debonair!

Over the six years that I have collected interviews for my feature film on the history of theatrical ice skating I have more information than I can possibly fit into an hour long feature presentation. So when Ice Theatre of New York decided to honor Richard Dwyer for their 2012 they asked me to create the video. Luckily over time I have been able to interview Richard more than once, so I am creating the tribute video without the expense of a new interview. So many people are helping. People like Bonnie Legg have come forward with material from the Ice Follies archives and Richard sent me images from his personal archives which I have scanned and am adding the tribute.

The video will be full of photos and footage never seen before. I wish there were a budget to talk with the many people who love Richard, and have worked with him over the years, however my tribute video will primarily be Richard telling his own story. Some of the quotes are direct citations from my documentary, but for the most part all the material will be unique to the tribute video.

Richard is one of the kindest and nicest people on the planet and I feel honored that I have become the person to turn to to tell the story of the greats in theatrical skating. I am volunteering for this position. So far I have spent a week on the video and I am about half way complete. I confess I am hoping that my efforts will bring me further support for my film The Fabulous Ice Age because I continue to be in need of finishing funds for my film. My next payment to the post-house is due September 15th and I do not have the money in hand to pay the bill.
